More than 181,000 children vaccinated against polio in Gaza

Ramallah – Ma’an – Minister of Health Majed Abu Ramadan said that the ministry was able, in three days, in partnership with the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), to vaccinate (181,429) children under the age of ten against the polio virus in the central governorate of the Gaza Strip.

He added in a statement issued by the ministry today, Thursday, that Vitamin A was given to (148,064) children “from two to 10 years old”, in various vaccination centers in the governorate, as part of the second round of the emergency campaign to vaccinate against polio in the southern governorates.

Ramadan pointed out that today is the last day of vaccination in the central governorate, and the day after tomorrow, Saturday, the teams will begin vaccinating children in the governorates of Khan Yunis and Rafah for 4 days, and then in the governorates of Gaza and the North.

The campaign aims to vaccinate 591,700 children under the age of ten, by depl
oying fixed and mobile teams to complete the campaign.

The Ministry of Health stressed that the success of this campaign depends on a humanitarian truce to ensure the ability of all polio workers to work in a safe environment and enable families to vaccinate their children.
