Cairo: The Muslim Council of Elders, under the leadership of Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, has announced its firm support for Egypt in its opposition to Israeli plans to displace Palestinians from their homeland.
According to Emirates News Agency, the Council voiced its backing for Egypt’s efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to ease the plight of the Palestinian people. The Council strongly condemned statements made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that suggested the forced relocation of Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt or other locations. The Council stated that such actions contravene international law and United Nations resolutions, infringe upon the rights of Palestinians, and are part of ongoing violations by the Israeli occupation aimed at undermining the Palestinian cause.
The Muslim Council of Elders reiterated its commitment to the Egyptian, Arab, and Islamic position supporting the Palestinians’ right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. The Council called upon the international community to take swift measures to halt the violence in Gaza, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, safeguard innocent lives, and address the longstanding suffering of the Palestinian people, which has persisted for more than seventy years.
