Abu dhabi: Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, attended the fourth day of the 13th FBMA International Show Jumping Cup to present the prize to Britain's William Funnell, the winner of the flagship Longines Grand Prix category.
According to Emirates News Agency, the event was organized by the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak and the guidance of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The event took place at Al Forsan International Sports Resort and was attended by notable figures including Dr Omniyat Al-Hajri, Najib Kiwan, Matar Rashed Binjabr Alsuwaidi, Talal Al Hashemi, and Shamsa Saif Alhanaee.
William Funnell was honored by Sheikh Nahyan during the prize ceremony after winning the One Round (145cms) category. Riding Equine America Billy Picador, Funnell completed a faultless round in 73.17 seconds, finishing ahead of UAE's Mohammad Al Ghurair and Sweden's Antonia Pettersson Haggstrom. Funnell's victory secured him a portion of the EUR 28,200 prize money, and he praised the efforts of the organizers in promoting equestrian sports in the UAE.
The event also featured other categories earlier in the day. Spain's Agusti Sastre Caballero won the One Round with Jump Off (120cms), while Syria's Shady Ghrayeb claimed victory in the One Round with Jump Off (130cms). In the Two Phases (130cms), Syria's Mohamad Mogheeth Al Shehab and Mohamad Osama Al Zabibi secured the top two positions, with UAE's Salim Ahmed Alsuwaidi taking bronze.
The Fatima Bint Mubarak International Show Jumping Cup 2026 is set to continue with the national event on Sunday.
