Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Taha Hussien Saturday called again for the immediate release of detained President of Niger Mohamed Bazoum.

In a news statement, Hussien expressed grave concerns about reports on the deteriorating conditions of Bazoum and his detained family members.

He affirmed the organization’s support for regional efforts in order to reach a peaceful settlement of the situation in Niger, restore constitutional order, and maintain its security and stability, it noted. Earlier in the day, the Peace and Security Council of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) announced adjourning two meetings, slated for today, to discuss the latest developments in Niger.
