Organised Criminal Gang Referred to Court for Kidnapping and Extortion

Abu dhabi: The Federal Public Prosecution has taken legal action against nine Arab nationals, referring them to court for their involvement in an organised criminal gang accused of committing severe offences that jeopardize state security, public order, and social peace.

According to Emirates News Agency, this case emerged after a victim reported through the Public Prosecution’s digital platform, ‘My Safe Society’, that he was kidnapped, indecently assaulted, and recorded while his hands were bound. Acting under the directives of the Attorney-General, the Public Prosecution conducted a thorough investigation, collecting evidence and instructing the Federal Judicial Enforcement Office to promptly identify and apprehend the suspects, as well as seize the tools used in the crimes.

The investigation revealed that the suspects lured the victim to one of their homes over a financial dispute, where they assaulted him, tied his hands, and detained him for a week. They coerced him into signing debt documents, filmed him naked, and distributed the footage on social media to extort money from his family. Authorities confiscated the vehicle and mobile phones used in the crime, which contained incriminating footage confirming the gang’s organised operations.

The defendants are facing charges that could lead to death or life imprisonment, owing to the threat their activities pose to state security. Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, UAE Attorney General, emphasized the importance of national security and stability, highlighting the Public Prosecution’s commitment to enforcing the law impartially and ensuring that those who threaten national security or social peace are prosecuted and brought to justice.
