Abu dhabi: Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, embarked on a passenger train journey from Mohamed bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi to Fujairah Station, marking a significant milestone shortly after the commencement of scheduled passenger rail services in the UAE.
According to Emirates News Agency, this journey underscores the strong commitment and interest in one of the UAE's most strategic projects. It signifies a transformative step in the transportation sector, aligning with the vision of the UAE's leadership to develop world-class infrastructure that enhances quality of life. Sheikh Nahyan was joined by Abdullah Sultan Al Nuaimi, Minister of Justice, and received by Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail, on the train.
During the journey, Sheikh Nahyan interacted with Emirati nationals working aboard and was briefed on the operational systems and passenger services. He experienced the features and amenities designed to provide a safe, modern, and comfortable travel experience, in line with global standards.
The visit included tours of Mohamed bin Zayed City Station and Fujairah Station, where Sheikh Nahyan reviewed operational facilities, smart services, and station management mechanisms. He expressed pride in the operation of passenger trains in the UAE, describing it as a national achievement that embodies the leadership's vision for a modern and integrated transport system.
Sheikh Nahyan highlighted that the project is not just a transport means but a strategic investment in the UAE's future. It strengthens connectivity, elevates quality of life, supports sustainable mobility, and reinforces the UAE's global standing in trade, investment, tourism, and logistics.
He acknowledged the visionary leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in steering the nation towards a sustainable future by investing in infrastructure, innovation, and technology. The passenger train project, he noted, is a realization of this vision, cementing the UAE's position as a model for comprehensive development and innovation.
Sheikh Nahyan emphasized the project's role in enhancing the national transport system, offering safe, fast, and sustainable mobility, supporting commercial and tourism activity, and aiding in achieving sustainability targets. He praised the dedication and efforts of Etihad Rail and its partners in delivering this vital national project.
The launch of passenger rail services comes within five years of its announcement as part of the UAE's "Projects of the 50," transforming an ambitious vision into reality. The services have seen strong demand since ticket bookings opened, operating six daily trips in its initial phase.
Etihad Rail plans to expand passenger services, with Dubai and Al Dhaid Stations opening on 30th September 2026, Al Dhafra region stations on 30th December 2026, and Sharjah Station on 30th March 2027, further enhancing connectivity and supporting sustainable development across the emirates.
