The Qatari Chess Team continues its participation in the 30th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival, with the participation of more than 2,200 male and female players representing 82 countries.
The participants in the festival, which will continue until Aug. 25, are distributed across 27 diverse events, including the International Masters Competitions, Open Championship A, Open Championship B, Juniors from 8 to 16 years old, Blitz Chess open to all, Blitz Chess for Juniors, Family Teams Competitions, Community Teams, Academies Championship, Institutions Championship, People of Determination Championship, and Schools Championship for both genders from 9 to 17 years old.
The Qatar Chess Association is participating with 15 players in the various tournaments (Masters Championship, Open Championship A, Open Championship B, Junior Championship under 16 years, and Blitz Chess Championship).
The Qatari team delegation includes International Grandmaster Hussein Aziz, in addition to Aisha Al khelaif
i, Khalid Al Jumaat, Ghada Al khelaifi, Irfan Mohammed, Hamad Al Kuwari, Turki Al Kuwari, Fahad Al Mansoori, Ibrahim Al Janahi, Saif Ahmed, Mohammed Al Qassabi, Fatima Al Hammadi, Rawda Al Qassabi, Asma Al Hammadi, and Layan Al Qassabi.
Executive Director of Qatar Chess Association Hamad Al Tamimi affirmed in an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency that Qatar’s participation in the Abu Dhabi International Festival is crucial as it comes within the Association’s plan to prepare and equip the national team for upcoming continental and international events, most notably the World Chess Olympiad, which will be held in Hungary from Sep. 10 to 23.
Al Tamimi pointed out that preparations are underway to participate in the Arab Championship for age groups to be hosted by Tunisia at the end of next October, as well as the Arab Championship for men and women, which will be held in Sharjah, UAE, early next November.
