In its meeting today, the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Professional Midwifery Committee, chaired by Sabah Al Zafari, President of the National Association of Yemeni Midwives, discussed the committee members’ plan for the year 2024 and priorities for action to promote the profession of midwifery in the region.
The meeting, which was held via video technology and included the committee’s team from member countries, International Confederation of Midwives President Jacqueline Bent, and Senior Regional and Governance Coordinator, reviewed the regional committee’s arrangements to participate in the International Conference for the Middle East and Africa to be held this September to highlight the activities and committee work and what has been achieved in the field of midwifery according to the ten pillars of the professional framework in the member countries.
It discussed the committee’s three main priorities for 2024, which include building a regional midwifery network by holding regular meetings, forming wo
rking groups, analyzing various aspects of the professional framework including education and enabling environment, and preparing a map of midwifery in the region.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of utilizing the workshop held in Pakistan to enhance the strategic direction in the field of midwifery in order to contribute to the advancement of the profession in the Asian region.
