RTA receives four certificates from International Association of Public Transport


DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has been awarded four recognition certificates by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP).

These certificates acknowledge RTA’s practices in transport planning and regulation, investment, innovation and future foresight, and digital transformation.

These results confirm the excellence and integration of the transport planning methodology applied by the RTA, and its use of world-class tools to develop road and transport project plans in a way compatible with the objectives and requirements of urban and economic growth in the emirate.

Fatima Al Mandoos, Director of Innovation and Pioneering, Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, RTA said, ‘Specialised experts from the UITP had carried out several assessments processes, which identified 55 pioneering practices, and 4 unique practices based on UITP’s established standards for specialised projects and initiatives. The practices support the competitiveness and sustainability indicators as
well as RTA’s vision as the World Leader in Seamless and Sustainable Mobility.’

RTA received the ‘Organising Transport’ certificate for its leadership in implementing modern practices and using advanced tools in transport planning on a global scale. RTA develops strategic transport plans using an integrated methodology that includes data collection and analysis, scenario development and evaluation, and the use of modern analytical tools and programmes based on best global practices and standards.

The objective of these efforts is to develop comprehensive plans and solutions, identify road and public transport projects, and formulate transport policies that meet the urban and economic development needs of the emirate under the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

RTA also studies and prioritises projects based on clear methodologies and criteria, including benefiting from the deliverables of the ‘Dubai Transport Planning Model,’ a modern model encompassing all relevant data used to predict future traffic volumes o
n roads and passenger numbers on public transport lines. It is also used to study and evaluate road and transport projects and policies along with solutions and policies.

The results of the evaluation conducted by the UITP underscored the excellence and comprehensiveness of the transport planning methodology applied by the RTA. The evaluation highlighted that RTA uses world-class planning tools to develop road and transport plans for Dubai, ensuring that various road and transport projects align with the emirate’s urban and economic growth objectives and requirements.

RTA was awarded the ‘Investment Pillar’ certificate for its outstanding efforts in executing investment opportunities aimed at increasing commercial revenues and enhancing cooperation and partnerships with the private sector in various fields, including technology, operations, and sustainable business practices.

RTA received recognition under the ‘Digital Transformation Pillar’ for its Digital Strategy 2030. This strategy includes 24 innovati
ve digital initiatives covering seven areas: digital twins, metaverse, robotics, integrated systems, enterprise solutions, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and the Internet of Things. The strategy aims to develop a flexible and scalable digital infrastructure to achieve the strategic goal of enhancing Dubai’s position as the smartest city in the world.

RTA received the ‘Innovation and Future Foresight Pillar’ certificate for its significant role in launching strategies that align with best global innovation practices. This includes RTA’s Innovation Strategy, which aligns with its Strategic Plan 2024-2030 and the National Innovation Strategy. RTA measured the innovation index within its departments, successfully integrating a culture of innovation across all its operations.
