Russia Aims to Boost Coal Production to 662 Million Tonnes by 2050

Moscow:Russia plans to increase its coal production to 662 million tonnes by 2050, as outlined in the country's coal industry development programme.

According to Wam, the programme, which has been approved by the Russian government, aims to maintain existing coal production capacity while also fostering the development of new resources for the coal industry.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksander Novak stated that by 2050, the sector's gross value added is expected to multiply sixfold. Additionally, the overall multiplier effect of the coal industry is projected to reach 10 trillion roubles.

The government website reported that during the first eight months of 2026, Russia saw a 7.2 percent increase in coal exports.
