Saudi PhD student at the University of Nottingham Boshra Mozaffar has been awarded first place prize for her poster titled "Zinc as a Contributor of Taste Change Associated with Bariatric Surgery" at the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS) conference held in Birmingham on 5 to 7 June.
Mozaffar has conducted much research in this area, including research on the effectiveness of zinc supplementation in improving the sense of taste, where she proved that high-dose zinc supplementation is an effective treatment for taste disorders in patients with zinc deficiency or idiopathic taste disorder and patients with taste disorders induced by chronic renal failure.
