Saudi Scouts: Voluntary and Guidance Services through Digital System for Lost Pilgrims in Holy Sites

Makkah, The Saudi Arabian Scouts Association contributes annually to enhancing their capabilities and harnessing technology to provide volunteer, humanitarian, and guidance services to lost pilgrims through stationary centres and roaming guides around the clock in the holy sites. These services occur in collaboration and integration with all governmental entities to serve the pilgrims.

The Scouts Association mobilized its capabilities, transitioning from amateurism to professionalism by harnessing its guidance technologies and intensive field training for approximately 4,200 volunteers across ten camps.

The operational mechanism involves using over a million navigational maps of various sizes, available electronically for download on smart devices. Scouts and mobile teams conduct early mapping training to facilitate easy guidance for lost pilgrims.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) interviewed the Assistant Leader of Arafat Camp for Surveying and Guidance, Sayyad Al-Wadaei, who indicated that the camps have bee
n preparing for 12 days, focusing on map training, review, and verification to ensure high-quality and precise service delivery to lost pilgrims.

He said the scouts’ activities revolve around guidance, direction, and support in assisting hospitalized patients, older individuals, and others in need.

The association provides electronic guidance programs for smartphones through its official website.

Additionally, the scouts offer roaming guidance services by retrieving information from pilgrims’ bracelets and guiding lost children by posting their pictures on the association’s website.
