Sharjah Chamber Explores Trade and Tourism Expansion with Maldives

Sharjah: The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) recently held discussions aimed at strengthening economic and trade cooperation with the Republic of Maldives. The focus of these discussions was to identify investment opportunities that could bring mutual value to both markets.

According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting explored potential trade expansion into strategic sectors such as fish storage and processing, date trading, and investments in hospitality and tourism. These sectors were highlighted to showcase Sharjah's competitive investment environment and its advanced logistics infrastructure, positioning the emirate as a key economic hub in the region.

Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, welcomed Thoriq Ibrahim, the Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives, and his delegation at the Sharjah Chamber's headquarters. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector at SCCI, and Dr. Fatima Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of International Relations Department at SCCI.

The discussions underscored the Sharjah Chamber's ongoing efforts to expand its international partnership network and promote high-potential investment opportunities across key sectors. The SCCI emphasized its role in facilitating direct connections between Sharjah's business community and international markets.

During the meeting, the Maldivian delegation also expressed interest in participating in exhibitions and business events organized by the Sharjah Chamber. Al Owais reaffirmed the Chamber's commitment to strengthening economic ties with the Maldives, offering comprehensive business support to Maldivian companies and entrepreneurs.

The Maldivian delegation conveyed their appreciation for the visit, noting Sharjah's economic achievements and its growing status as a leading regional and international business hub. They expressed interest in expanding trade relations, particularly in areas like fish storage and processing, date trading, hospitality, and tourism.

Both parties also discussed leveraging Sharjah's expertise in port operations and maritime infrastructure, in line with the Maldives' plans to expand its seaport network and upgrade logistics infrastructure to accommodate growth in trade and tourism.
