Sharjah Chamber, Japan discuss enhancing economic cooperation


Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to strengthening economic cooperation with Japan. This includes efforts to increase exports and foster joint investment opportunities.

By capitalising on established business networks between the UAE and Japan, the Sharjah Chamber aims to facilitate the exchange of commercial insights and expertise and further develop mutual business ventures between investors from both countries.

This statement was made during a meeting held at SCCI’s headquarters between H.E Abdallah Sultan Al Owais and Jun Imanishi, Consul-General of Japan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

The meeting was attended by Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al-Awadi, SCCI’s Director-General, and Fatema Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of International Relations at SCCI, as well as several officials from both sides.

The meeting focused on activating the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Sharjah Chamber and the Jap
an External Trade Organisation (JETRO), which is designed to bolster trade relations between the two entities.

The discussion delved into prospects for enhancing collaboration and partnerships in various promising sectors, increasing trade volume, and developing communication frameworks between the two sides.

The meeting was also intended to discuss how to coordinate participation in economic events and trade exhibitions hosted by both Sharjah and Japan and facilitate reciprocal visits by businessmen and trade delegations from both sides.

Abdallah Sultan Al Owais commended the robust relationships between the UAE and Japan, underscoring the Sharjah Chamber’s pivotal role in enhancing trade and investment connections between the two nations.

He highlighted SCCI’s commitment to facilitating opportunities for Sharjah’s business community and its counterpart in Japan to explore further promising avenues in their markets and to build partnerships across vital sectors, with a particular focus on technology, inn
ovation, and renewable energy.

During the meeting, the Sharjah Chamber invited the Japanese representatives to partake in the Middle East Electric Vehicle Show set to be hosted by Expo Centre Sharjah, in recognition of Japan’s expertise and leadership in this industry. This participation offers significant opportunities to develop cooperation in the field of sustainable transportation.

Additionally, the Japanese diplomatic delegation was encouraged to attend the upcoming ‘ExpoCulinaire 2025’ exhibition held at Expo Centre Sharjah. The Sharjah Chamber also extended further invitations to the delegation to engage in future events such as “SteelFab 2025” and the Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show.

Both sides reached a consensus on an action plan aimed at bolstering joint participation in trade exhibitions, with the Sharjah Chamber introducing the 2025 Expo Centre events calendar to the Japanese delegation.
