Shura Council condemns crime of burning copy of Holy Quran in Denmark

The Shura Council condemned the crime of burning a copy of the Sharif Quran by an extremist in front of the Libyan embassy in the Danish capital of Copenhagen.

In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the Council noted that repeated extremist acts inciting hatred and interreligious strife had been repeated without deterrence, which had encouraged their continuation in clear contravention of the norms of international human rights law and rejected by all international religions and customs.

The Council strongly deplored the Government of Denmark’s unequivocal attitude towards Islamophobic extremists as unilateral acts resulting from the policy of submission, humiliation and shameful normalization of certain Arab regimes with Islamophobic States.

The Council regretted and dismayed the irresponsible actions of the mercenary Government by hosting the Swedish Ambassador and his escorts in Aden and their indifference to the burning of the Holy Quran by Sweden’s sinister and extremist hands.

The Arab and Islamic world urgently called for unified attitudes that go beyond the language of condemnation, denunciation and put an end to all failing attitudes and the immediate and urgent trend towards economic boycotts and the severance of diplomatic relations with Islam-abusing States and Muslims.

The Council also called upon the United Nations, Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and all international and regional organizations to affirm respect for peoples’ religious sanctities and to halt and criminalize the abuse of Islam and Muslims as crimes that reflect hatred and incitement and have negative consequences for international peace and security.

The Council called on the Association of Senate, Consultative and Similar Councils in Africa and the Arab World to act expeditiously in international forums to condemn these extremist acts, and to demand uniform legislation prohibiting and criminalizing abuses of Islamic religions, beliefs and the Holy Quran.

The Shura Council held the normalization, employment and pro-Zionist regimes responsible for the shameful silence that resulted in the persistence of Islamic sanctities by extremists in the West, and encouraged repeated abuse of Muslims and violation of their sanctities.
