Cairo: The Shura Council participated in the 40th Extraordinary Session of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) in Cairo. The two-day meeting was presided over by Ibrahim Bougali, the President of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union and Speaker of the Algerian National People's Assembly.
According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting saw the attendance of HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, who holds membership in the AIPU Executive Committee and serves as Vice-President representing the Arab Group within the union. HE Dr. Sultan bin Hassan Al Dhabit Al Dosari, another member of the Shura Council and the AIPU's Executive Committee, also represented the council.
Key topics of discussion included potential amendments to the voting mechanism for emergency items at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly. The meeting also addressed the emergency item proposal that the Arab Parliamentary Group plans to present at the upcoming 152nd IPU Assembly in Istanbul, Turkiye, scheduled for April. Additionally, the meeting reviewed reports from the AIPU's General Secretariat and the ad hoc Finance and Diplomatic Committees.
On the meeting's sidelines, HE Deputy Speaker Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti held discussions with HE Deputy Chairman of the Palestinian National Council (PNC) Musa Hadid. They explored avenues for enhancing parliamentary cooperation and discussed several topics on the AIPU Executive Committee's agenda, exchanging views on these matters.
