South Africa flood deaths hit 395

The death toll from South Africa’s floods has surged to 395 this week, amid fears that it will rise further in light of the large number of missing people.

The storm hit the coastal state of KwaZulu-Natal, eastern South Africa, in the worst weather disaster in the history of South Africa. As rain water flooded many streets, several bridges and houses collapsed, and the port of Durban, one of the largest shipping ports in Africa, was closed.

Thousands have fled to emergency shelters and are depending on humanitarian aid due to the storms that began on Monday, 11th April, which cut water and electricity supplies to many areas.
