Cairo: Special Olympics UAE is set to participate in the second phase of the 10th Special Olympics MENA Regional Games, scheduled to take place in Cairo from 17 to 23 September 2026. This event is part of a newly adopted regional model that involves hosting the games across five different countries. The UAE's delegation, consisting of 28 members including coaches, technical and support staff, and 15 athletes, will compete in rhythmic and artistic gymnastics, powerlifting, and equestrian.

According to Emirates News Agency, the athletes have been undergoing a rigorous training program aimed at honing their technical skills and physical readiness for the competition. This preparation is designed to boost their confidence and ensure they deliver optimal performances. Talal Al Hashmi, National Director of Special Olympics UAE, emphasized the importance of this participation as a step towards empowering athletes and providing them platforms to showcase their skills and experience on a regional level.

Al Hashmi also highlighted that the competitions serve as a crucial milestone for athletes aiming to qualify for the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Santiago, Chile, in 2027. The 10th Special Olympics MENA Regional Games signify a change in the event's organizational structure, with the Regional Presidency opting for a multi-country format instead of the traditional single-city model every four years.

The UAE delegation's schedule in Cairo is packed, starting with their arrival on 17 September, followed by training and divisioning on 18 September. Divisioning will continue alongside the official Opening Ceremony on 19 September. The finals and medal ceremonies are set for 20 September, with cultural activities such as the Host Town Program and Egyptian Cultural Day planned for 21 September. The games will conclude with a Closing Ceremony on 22 September, after which delegations will depart on 23 September 2026.
