Sudan army, paramilitary forces engaged in renewed fighting

Renewed violent clashes erupted between the Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, on Friday.

The Sudanese army said in a press statement that it had launched a “successful” wide-scale manhunt in the cities of Khartoum, Omdurman and Bahri, but recognized that it had suffered losses in Bahri.

Meanwhile, the paramilitary forces claimed that they had intercepted an attack by the Sudanese army involving 130 combat vehicles in north Bahri and they had seized several vehicles, and killed and captured scores of soldiers.

Since April 15, Sudan has been witnessing clashes between the army and RSF in Khartoum and other cities, which have so far claimed the lives of thousands and led to the displacement of about two and a half million people.

Participants in the Cairo-held summit of Sudan’s neighboring countries on Thursday emphasized that it was essential to resolve Sudan’s internal conflict by peaceful means and to launch a political process that could meet the expectations and hopes of the Sudanese people.
