Sultan Al Jaber Convenes Global Leaders to Forge AI-Energy-Climate Partnerships for Sustainable Growth.

Abu Dhabi: Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC CEO, convened 80 global leaders from the energy, technology, climate, and investment sectors at the ENACT Majlis to explore opportunities within the AI-Energy-Climate Nexus. The gathering aimed to develop strategies for sustainable energy delivery to support AI’s rapid expansion.

According to Emirates News Agency, the ENACT Majlis emphasized the economic potential of cross-sector collaboration in energy and AI integration. Dr. Al Jaber highlighted the need for a collaborative response to address AI’s growing energy demands, stressing that no single energy source can meet these needs alone. The discussions focused on creating an action agenda to unlock AI’s transformative potential through innovative, integrated solutions.

Participants at the Majlis stressed the urgency of expanding investments in low-carbon energy solutions. With AI data center power demand projected to double by 2030 and further increase by 204
0, they recognized the need for $600 billion in annual infrastructure investments and significant power grid upgrades. Leaders agreed on the necessity of utilizing a mix of nuclear, gas, and renewables to meet future energy demands.

The industry leaders also discussed the role of AI in enhancing energy efficiency and reducing emissions. They explored the challenges and opportunities in scaling AI within industrial systems and modernizing power infrastructure. The need for significant infrastructure upgrades, particularly in power transmission, was a key focus.

Financing mechanisms for the AI-energy nexus were thoroughly examined, with discussions around investment in technologies aligning with the energy demands of AI data centers. The Majlis underscored the importance of advancing a just and equitable energy transition, addressing economic challenges, particularly in the Global South.

The discussions were informed by a joint report from ADNOC, Masdar, and Microsoft titled ‘Powering Possible: AI and Energy
for a Sustainable Future,’ which highlights AI’s role in optimizing energy efficiency and supporting a net-zero future while meeting the growing energy demands of AI technology.

The ENACT Majlis was held on the eve of ADIPEC 2024, the world’s leading energy industry event in Abu Dhabi. Notable participants included HRH Princess Beatrice, Brad Smith of Microsoft, and other prominent leaders from global organizations.
