Sultan bin Ahmed Visits Research Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences at University of Sharjah.


Sharjah: H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, visited the Research Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (RIHSS) at the University of Sharjah (UoS) on Thursday morning. The RIHSS is dedicated to showcasing the importance of social sciences and humanities, with a focus on their practical applications in social innovation, human behavior, and community building.

According to Emirates News Agency, H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed toured the institute, exploring its diverse sections, including the Research Translation Unit, the Emirati Youth Research Fellowship Program, the Family and Child Studies Centre, and the Sharjah Centre for Public Opinion Polls. The visit included a stop at the institute’s smart hall, designed to accommodate about 40 students, providing an interactive learning environment.

During his visit, the President of the University of Sharjah engaged with institute members, receiving insights into its operat
ions. The Family and Child Studies Centre aims to strengthen families by translating research findings into actionable policies. Meanwhile, the Centre for Applied Sociology seeks to become a leading research and community service hub both locally and globally.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed learned about the ‘Emirati Youth Research Fellowship Program,’ a pioneering initiative in the Arab world that offers Emirati youth valuable research experience and skill enhancement. He interacted with program researchers who shared their experiences and skills in enhancing government institutions through knowledge sharing.

Additionally, Sheikh Sultan received updates on the Sharjah Centre for Public Opinion Polls (SCPOP), which focuses on data analysis to provide decision-makers with practical insights for effective solutions. He also visited the Research Translation Unit, which promotes faculty research published in Arabic, making it globally accessible.

The visit included discussions with representatives from Tsinghua Unive
rsity, exploring collaborative research efforts between the two institutions. Sheikh Sultan toured the institute’s multi-purpose hall, equipped with advanced technology, creating an ideal study environment.

He observed a video presentation highlighting key statistics of the RIHSS, featuring 170 affiliated researchers, 50 research assistants and postdoctoral researchers, and 21 research groups. The institute houses specialized laboratories in various fields, including social sciences, quantitative and qualitative research, art and design, and crime scene analysis.
