TRC contributes JD145M to public treasury in 2022

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) has reported a notable financial milestone in its annual contribution to the public treasury during the past year. According to a TRC statement on Monday, the transfer to the general treasury in 2022 reached an impressive sum of JD145 million. This marks a remarkable 41% increase compared to the previous year’s contribution of JD102 million in 2021. The financial report further reveals that the considerable increase in funds transferred to the public treasury primarily resulted from a strategic settlement agreement with prominent telecommunication companies, including Zain, Orange, and Umniah. Notably, an amount of JD84 million constituted the first installment of this agreement, further bolstering the contribution for the fiscal year 2022. The TRC disclosed a detailed breakdown of direct transfers to the public treasury for the years (2021-2022-2023), with a cumulative amount of approximately JD303 million. This significant financial injection into the public treasury is set to play a pivotal role in supporting various national initiatives and developmental projects. Amassed since its inception, the total sum of TRC’s direct transfers to the public treasury stands at a noteworthy JD2.161 billion. This amount encompasses various revenue streams, including annual licensing returns, revenue shares, frequency fees, and postal license fees. The financial success of TRC can be attributed to the diverse sources of its financial resources, including annual revenue shares derived from the operational revenues of mobile phone companies, returns from licenses and permits (encompassing frequency returns), fees, and penalties levied in adherence to telecommunications laws. Additionally, funds allocated in the state general budget and other resources sanctioned by the cabinet also supplement the Commission’s financial capabilities.
