TSC welcomes outcome of Sudan neighbors’ summit

Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council hailed the outcomes of the leaders’ summit of neighboring countries, held in Cairo earlier Thursday.

In response to the summit call for cessation of hostilities, the TSC said in a statement that the Sudanese Armed Forces are ready to halt all operations immediately provided “the rebel militia” stops attacking the government facilities and civilian property.

The TSC statement was referring to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that have been fighting the Sudanese regular troops since April 15. Once the fighting stops, the TSC is ready to engage in a political dialogue that could lead to the formation of a democratically-elected civilian government, the TSC pledged.

The TSC extolled Egyptian President Abdulfattah Al-Sisi for hosting Sudan neighbors’ summit.

They also thanked Saudi Arabia for the United States for their joint mediation in the peace talks in Jeddah and backing the efforts to end the suffering of the Sudanese people.

The war in Sudan has reportedly claimed 3,000 lives, injured 6,000 others and displaced nearly three million people.
