A 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit Hokkaido, Japan on Friday.
The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that the quake's epicenter was 46 km below the Earth's surface.
Another earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale today struck parts of the Japanese Aomori Prefecture in the northern part of the main island of Honshu in Japan.
The Japan Meteorological Agency stated that the earthquake occurred in the morning at a depth of 20 km, and reached the fourth level on the Japanese seismic intensity scale, which peaks at the seventh level.
The epicenter was located off Aomori, at 41.2 degrees north latitude and 142.9 degrees east longitude.
No tsunami warning was issued.
Japan is located at the meeting point of four tectonic plates, which makes it particularly vulnerable to seismic activity, and is also home to 100 active volcanoes.
An earthquake in 2011, measuring 9 on the Richter scale, accompanied by tsunamis, killed more than 15,000 people, and caused a disaster at the Fukushima nuclear plant.
