Kuwait city: Dr. Omar Habtour Al Darei, Chairman of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat, has emphasized the importance of adopting a balanced approach to artificial intelligence (AI) in religious domains. He urged embracing AI as an opportunity in the modern era to benefit humanity, nations, and religious practices.
According to Emirates News Agency, Dr. Al Darei delivered this message during his participation in the 11th Ministerial Meeting of Officials Responsible for Islamic Affairs and Endowments in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, held in Kuwait. He highlighted the UAE’s pioneering initiatives, including AI integration in sermons and mosques, and the ‘Unified Sermon’ initiative initiated thirty years ago by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Dr. Al Darei also discussed the UAE’s efforts in promoting coexistence values, managing religious affairs through comprehensive legislation, and developing religious competencies with advanced curricula.
The ministerial meeting addressed important societal needs, such as family and generational issues, the promotion of religious, moral, and human values, enhancement of intellectual security, the balanced incorporation of AI, and environmental protection and energy conservation.
