New delhi: On behalf of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has led the UAE delegation participating in the 18th BRICS Summit, inaugurated in New Delhi, India, by Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India.
According to Emirates News Agency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed leaders and heads of government of BRICS member states, as well as heads of delegations from invited countries and representatives of regional and international organizations attending the summit. He expressed gratitude to Brazil for its previous BRICS presidency and emphasized the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation and economic ties among Global South nations.
The UAE's participation underscores its commitment to supporting global governance efforts by promoting the involvement of developing and emerging countries in strengthening economic partnerships and supporting trade and investment flows. The UAE aims to expand cooperation within BRICS, advancing an inclusive development model and enhancing global economic resilience to promote stability and sustainable growth.
The summit featured a session under the theme Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism, attended by BRICS leaders and participating delegations. Discussions focused on advancing global governance and enhancing multilateralism, while supporting cooperation across economic, trade, and technology sectors to address global challenges and rapidly evolving developments.
The session also emphasized the importance of developing partnerships among BRICS countries to support economic growth, facilitate trade and investment, accelerate innovation and technological transformation, safeguard energy and food security, and strengthen sustainability and resilience in responding to shared crises.
The summit concluded with the adoption of the New Delhi BRICS Leaders' Declaration, outlining priorities for strengthening economic integration and expanding partnerships among member states. The declaration called for expanded cooperation in artificial intelligence and financial technology to enhance the interconnectedness of emerging markets and support a balanced model of global governance.
At the conclusion of the summit, BRICS leaders and heads of delegations participated in a group photograph and a joint tree-planting ceremony at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre. This gesture symbolized the depth of relations and partnerships among BRICS countries and their shared aspiration for lasting cooperation and a prosperous future.
The UAE is attending the summit for the third time as a BRICS member, having joined during the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, in August 2023. This participation reflects the UAE's efforts to support multilateral cooperation and strengthen economic ties among Global South nations, enhancing the role of developing economies in the global economic ecosystem.
The UAE delegation included key figures such as Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoon bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Reem Al Hashimy, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, and other prominent officials, all contributing to the UAE's strategic goals at the summit.
