UAE Embraces AI to Revolutionize Government Services

Abu Dhabi:Government services in the UAE are undergoing a significant digital transformation, marked by the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance efficiency and user experience. This development is shifting AI applications from merely providing information to autonomously completing tasks and coordinating procedures, ultimately reducing transaction steps and saving time for customers.

According to Wam, the UAE is implementing AI to complete recurring services without requiring customers to manually initiate requests. Some services have already begun transaction completion, while others are in development or preparing for public launch. The government services model focuses on reducing customer steps and expanding systems' coordination capabilities, ensuring necessary approvals, data protection, and human oversight.

Abu Dhabi's TAMM platform exemplifies this shift with its AutoGov feature, which automatically renews licenses and medical appointments, eliminating the need for customers to wait for expiry dates or initiate requests. TAMM serves 3.8 million users with over 1,150 services, using AI for 95% of requests and completing 1.9 million service cases through conversational AI.

In October, Abu Dhabi launched GovGPT, an AI-driven knowledge agent for government employees. The capital's Executive Council also used an AI-powered meeting platform to analyze documents and prepare summaries. In Ajman, agentic AI was used to renew a trade license, starting with notifications and involving an AI assistant through the Ajman One app.

Ajman Government's new integrated services streamline processes without platform-switching, including trade license renewal and AI financial advising. The Ajman Free Zones Authority's OneClick assistant guides business establishment and license issuance through a single conversation.

Dubai's DEWA transformed 76% of its services into AI-enhanced autonomous services, with plans to complete the remainder soon. Dubai's RTA updated its virtual assistant, Mahboub, for interconnected service coordination, including vehicle registration and fine payments.

At the federal level, the UAE Cabinet approved a framework to integrate AI into 50% of government sectors and services within two years. The national program involves training 80,000 federal employees and launching specialized assistants for various functions. The Agentic AI Application Lab was established to develop and test solutions, and a guide was issued for designing AI-powered government experiences.

AI adoption extends to meteorology, with the NCM launching AI assistants and a roadmap for expanded use.
