Doha:The United Arab Emirates took part in the 11th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Qatar. The meeting, themed 'Tomorrow's Infrastructure: Impact and Innovation,' brought together key figures to discuss the AIIB's strategic plans for its second decade.
According to Emirates News Agency, the AIIB has approved over US$76 billion for 384 projects since its inception in 2016, playing a significant role in infrastructure financing and sustainable economic development among its members. Discussions at the meeting focused on increasing impact, enhancing partnerships, and providing value throughout the infrastructure project cycle.
Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and Alternate Governor for the UAE at AIIB, emphasized the importance of the AIIB in global development finance. He noted that its second decade is an opportunity to build on its established foundation, highlighting the need for stronger partnerships and tailored financing to achieve development goals. The UAE remains committed to this agenda and to strengthening international cooperation for sustainable development.
The UAE's involvement underscores its ongoing efforts to forge international partnerships, mobilize resources, and support practical solutions to shared development issues. This commitment will be further demonstrated in December, when Abu Dhabi hosts the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, co-hosted by the UAE and Senegal. The conference will concentrate on accelerating the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6 on water and sanitation, aiming to foster solutions and action on global water challenges.
