UAE Leads 22nd Session of Arab Electronic Media Committee in Cairo

Cairo: The UAE took the helm of the 22nd session of the Arab Electronic Media Committee, which began on Sunday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo. The session was chaired by Somaya Al Ali, Director of Partnerships and International Cooperation at the National Media Authority. Dr Haider Al-Jubouri, Director of the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, and representatives from media institutions and authorities across Arab countries were also present.

According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting focused on following up on the implementation of Resolution No. 566, issued by the Council of Arab Information Ministers in its 55th ordinary session. Key discussions included recommendations on cybersecurity, strengthening Arab websites and platforms, and safeguarding them against hacking and cyberattacks. The agenda also involved reviewing the membership of the committee responsible for cybersecurity in the protection of Arab platforms and websites.

The session addressed recommendations from a working group tasked with evaluating electronic games containing violence or promoting terrorism, considering their potential impact on the societal security of Arab nations. Additionally, the meeting reviewed a proposed project to compile a book documenting the current state of electronic media in the Arab world and strategies for its optimal use at media and institutional levels.

Furthermore, the UAE's initiatives to develop and launch the Arab Committee for Electronic Media's website were highlighted. Plans for a training course for officials managing member states' pages were also discussed, with the aim of enhancing data provision and country-specific content on the website.

The committee examined a UAE proposal to host representatives of Arab ministries of information in 2026, coordinating with the General Secretariat to facilitate the initiative.
