UAE participates in Ukraine Recovery Conference


BERLIN: The United Arab Emirates participated in a two-day Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC) event, which took place from 11th – 12th June, in Berlin, Germany. During the conference, the UAE expressed its commitment to the Ukrainian people, its recovery and reconstruction, and underlined the UAE’s continued efforts at finding a peaceful solution to the conflict, stressing the importance of resorting to diplomacy, dialogue, de-escalation, and mitigating the humanitarian repercussions resulting from the crisis.

Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, who led the UAE delegation, emphasised the country’s firm belief in maintaining channels of communication with all parties involved. The UAE succeeded in facilitating captive exchanges for the fourth time since the beginning of this year, reflecting the country’s strong relations with both sides.

Moreover, Al Hashimy stressed the UAE’s commitment to forging a robust partnership with Ukraine through finalising the Comprehensive Economic P
artnership Agreement (CEPA), the latest historic milestone in bilateral relations.

She highlighted endeavours by the UAE, including the allocation of US$105 million for the humanitarian aid to Ukraine, including food and medical supplies, ambulances and generators, as well as laptops and educational supplies to assist Ukrainian civilians and children.

The UAE also outlined upcoming support plans which will focus on enhancing Ukraine’s educational and healthcare systems, including women’s and mental health.

On the sidelines of the Conference, Al Hashimy conducted a number of bilateral meetings, including with Olena Zelenska, the First Lady of Ukraine, Thomas Bagger, State Secretary at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and Jens Ploetner, the Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to the German Federal Chancellor.

Al Hashimy was accompanied by Ahmed Al Attar, the UAE’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany.
