UAE President and European Commission President Initiate Strategic Partnership Talks


Abu dhabi: President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Her Excellency Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, engaged in a phone conversation to discuss cooperation and the formal launch of strategic partnership negotiations between the UAE and the European Union. The discussions aimed at advancing ties to support shared interests.



According to Emirates News Agency, the call highlighted the initiation of negotiations for a strategic partnership agreement, emphasizing its role in enhancing bilateral relations in priority areas and establishing a comprehensive framework for cooperation. Both leaders expressed their commitment to strengthening UAE-EU relations, especially in development-related sectors, and recognized the importance of a potential free trade agreement as a means to foster further collaboration.



The conversation also covered regional and international issues of mutual interest, focusing on the Middle East’s humanitarian situation, particularly in Gaza. They stressed the need for continuous aid delivery and discussed the importance of a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution to ensure regional stability.



Additionally, the ongoing Ukraine crisis was addressed, with efforts towards resolution being a priority. His Highness reiterated the UAE’s commitment to resolving conflicts through dialogue and political means, reflecting the country’s dedication to promoting peace, development, and prosperity on both regional and global scales.
