New York: The UAE Space Agency represented the United Arab Emirates in crucial United Nations General Assembly sessions on outer space. In these meetings, the UAE reiterated its commitment to international cooperation, highlighted by its significant achievements such as the Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt, its contribution to the Artemis Lunar Gateway, and the upcoming moon exploration mission. These efforts reflect the UAE’s dedication to advancing science and technology, contributing to space exploration, and expanding scientific knowledge.
According to Emirates News Agency, during the session, the UAE emphasized the essential role of space capabilities in addressing global challenges, including environmental monitoring, climate resilience, and food security enhancement. The UAE has developed a program that utilizes satellite data to track destruction caused by extreme weather events worldwide and create early warning systems to mitigate future climate change impacts.
Reaffirming its commitment to
the peaceful use of outer space, the UAE stressed the importance of upholding this principle. It ensures that technological resources and knowledge gained through space activities are used for the benefit of all humankind and promote peace and sustainable development on Earth.
Additionally, the US-UAE Business Council hosted a reception in honor of the UAE delegation, offering a platform to engage with the global space community. This event also served as a preview for the second Abu Dhabi Space Debate, scheduled for December 10-11, 2024. This year’s debate will bring together industry, government, and academic leaders to discuss challenges and opportunities in the evolving space industry.
