UAE to host World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2025

The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), participated in the World Maritime Day Parallel Event in Spain.

Organised by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the event drew the participation of the international maritime community to highlight the importance of safety at sea in an era of significant transformations and new risks.

Hessa Al Malek, Advisor to the Minister for Maritime Transport and Affairs at MoEI, headed the UAE delegation. She was handed over the IMO flag as the UAE will be the host of the World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2025.

She said, ‘Next year, it will be our privilege to host you all to celebrate World Maritime Day 2025 under the theme: Our Ocean – Our Obligation – Our Opportunity. The theme aligns perfectly with our vision as we are committed to protecting the ocean and strongly believe it presents ample opportunity for economic growth and environmental protection.’

Al Malek added, ‘As the majority of global trade is being transported by se

They provide jobs for millions of people around the world and are home to our precious marine life, in addition to their importance as the planet’s greatest carbon sink. As the largest sector operating in the ocean space, shipping has a central role to play in the protection of the marine environment and management of ocean resources. We need to work together to make sure the shipping industry is sustainable, resilient, and regulated.’

She noted, ‘The UAE is now one of the best, most influential maritime hubs globally. Our practices and legislation are advancing the sector, enhancing safety standards, and contributing to the protection of international marine environment. The UAE is keen on developing clean, climate-friendly solutions in the maritime sector to ensure it is sustainable. It has also become a premier global convenor of maritime events that aim to develop innovative solutions and cutting-edge technologies that serve the objectives of IMO.’

She co
ncluded, ‘In the UAE, we will meet with a shared vision of joining forces to ensure the sustainable and safe use of ocean resources. We stand ready and genuinely look forward to welcoming you all to our beautiful country.’
