Abu dhabi: Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, highlighted the UAE's commitment to enhancing air quality as part of its strategic national priorities during the seventh International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies. The UAE is calling for stronger cooperation and practical solutions to improve air quality, advancing both climate action and economic resilience.
According to Emirates News Agency, the focus of this year's International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies underscores that clean air is an investment in community well-being, a stronger economy, and shared prosperity. The UAE's National Air Quality Agenda 2031 outlines a framework for federal, local, and private sector alignment around monitoring, mitigation, and management of air quality, targeting both outdoor and indoor environments. This initiative is supported by federal environmental legislation aimed at preventing, controlling, and managing emissions.
Dr. Al Dahak emphasized the importance of reliable and accessible data in transforming policy into measurable action. The UAE's National Air Quality Platform offers a real-time overview of the country's air quality, complemented by a centralized digital dashboard for data collection and management. This digital integration replaces fragmented submissions and enhances data quality, analysis, and national reporting, enabling more efficient policy translation and targeted action.
Additionally, the Ministry has developed an integrated national emissions Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system that includes both air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions. This system provides a consistent digital pathway for managing emissions information, supporting the development of emissions inventories, and facilitating evidence-based policy and mitigation measures.
The UAE is also advancing national air-quality forecasting and early-warning capabilities by integrating monitoring, meteorological data, and analytical tools. This proactive approach aims to anticipate pollution episodes and enable targeted responses, essential for future-ready air-quality management.
These initiatives mark a shift towards a connected national approach to air-quality management, emphasizing the importance of clean air for quality of life and economic resilience. The UAE remains committed to collaborating with various stakeholders to accelerate practical solutions, ensuring cleaner air and blue skies for future generations.
