Abu Dhabi:The United Arab Emirates received commendations for its role in hosting the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, which took place in Abu Dhabi in 2026. The event successfully convened UN Member States to address pressing global issues in crime prevention and criminal justice reform.

According to Emirates News Agency, Alexandra Souza Martins from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime highlighted that the Abu Dhabi Declaration was adopted by consensus on the Congress's opening day. This key document outlines a five-year framework aimed at enhancing crime prevention strategies, reforming criminal justice systems, and bolstering international collaboration.

The Declaration prioritizes evidence-based prevention methods and the empowerment of women, youth, and communities as vital partners in combating crime and violence. Martins underscored the significance of addressing new online threats, such as the recruitment of minors by armed and criminal groups, online child sexual exploitation and abuse, and gender-based violence.

Additionally, Martins emphasized the need for stronger community-based crime prevention efforts, technical assistance, and the development of local capacities. Ensuring that communities, including children, young people, and women, are active partners is crucial in safeguarding against crime and violence.
