UAE’s Permanent Representative to OPCW presents credentials

Fernando Arias, Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), received the credentials of Jamal Al Musharakh as the UAE’s permanent representative to the organisation.

During the ceremony, which was held in the presence of members of the UAE diplomatic mission to The Hague, Al Musharakh expressed his pride in representing the UAE in the organisation, noting his keenness to enhance cooperation that would contribute to achieving its goals and promoting international peace and security.

For his part, Arias welcomed Al Musharakh and wished him success in his assignments, highlighting that the UAE is always keen to cooperate with OPCW and the states parties for the effective implementation of the agreement.

During the presentation ceremony, the delegation toured the departments of the organisation. Al Musharakh was briefed on the latest developments of OPCW’s Centre for Chemistry and Technology, as the UAE was one of the first contributors supporting its establishment.

As the implementing body of the Chemical Weapons Convention, OPCW – with its 193 member states – oversees the global effort to permanently eliminate chemical weapons. Since its entry into force in 1997, the Convention has been the world’s first multilateral disarmament agreement to provide for the elimination of an entire category of weapons of mass destruction.
