Abu Dhabi:The 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Abu Dhabi is featuring the My Voice Matters in the Fight against Organized Crime platform, which showcases 33 creative works selected from over 120 global submissions. This initiative focuses on the human impact of organized crime, highlighting issues such as trafficking, online fraud, and exploitation.
According to Emirates News Agency, the platform includes contributions from 15 young individuals, offering insight into the consequences of organized crime. Artworks, stories, and poetry transform personal experiences into testimonies, adding a human element to legislative discussions and aiding in the design of more effective prevention programs and protection services.
The initiative, launched by the UNODC Global Programme, provides a space for those affected by organized crime to share their experiences, aiming to increase public awareness and bring these voices to policymakers. International contributions span documentary works, paintings, and poetry, demonstrating art's power to convey universal experiences of fear, exploitation, and resilience.
One highlighted work, "For Sale," illustrates human trafficking's tragedy, depicting a young woman surrounded by bids to represent victim commodification. Other works address forced labor and its long-term impacts, advocating for comprehensive responses that include protection, justice, and rehabilitation.
The platform also tackles cybercrime through creative works depicting the effects of digital fraud. This complements Congress discussions on electronic evidence and the responsible use of artificial intelligence, emphasizing the need for a balanced legal and judicial approach.
Additionally, the platform highlights forced recruitment and the targeting of youth, stressing the importance of involving young people in developing solutions and promoting early intervention and legal awareness.
The initiative not only serves as an artistic exhibition but also as a practical tool for understanding crime's social impacts and enhancing dialogue among governments and communities. This approach supports the Abu Dhabi Declaration's priorities of strengthening prevention, protecting victims, and promoting youth and civil society participation in addressing criminal threats.
