The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Tuesday called for an immediate cease-fire in the capital Tripoli, as the clashes between two forces have been continuing since Monday.
In a statement, UNSMIL said it is monitoring the events and security developments in Tripoli with grave concern, expressing its concern over the potential impact of these developments on its ongoing efforts to have a conducive environment to advance the political process, including preparations for holding general elections.
Violence is not an acceptable means to resolve disagreements. All parties must preserve the security gains achieved in recent years and address differences through dialogue, UNSMIL said in a statement.
The mission also reminded all factions of their responsibility to preserve the prevailing relative stability and to create a conducive environment for holding elections to fulfill the aspirations of the Libyan people.
