US Special Envoy to Yemen in Saudi Arabia to tackle peace efforts

US Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking traveled to Saudi Arabia on June 12 to advance efforts to further expand the continuing benefits of the truce and launch a comprehensive peace process, a statement by US State Department said Tuesday.

“The United States is committed to supporting a resolution to the Yemen conflict as soon as possible.

The United States is working closely with the UN and regional partners to build on the UN-mediated truce, which has delivered the longest period of calm since the war began, and to enable Yemenis to shape a brighter future for their country,” the statement said.

While in Saudi Arabia, Lenderking will meet with Yemeni and Saudi officials along with international partners to discuss their coordinated efforts to advance ongoing talks, the statement noted.

“The Special Envoy will be following up on discussions held by Secretary Blinken and his counterparts in the region and discuss recent progress in the US-supported operation to avert a catastrophic oil spill from the Safer tanker,” the statement added.
