Catania:The operator of Italy's Catania Airport suspended all incoming flights from Saturday until noon on Sunday due to volcanic ash from Mount Etna and adverse weather conditions disrupting air traffic.

According to Emirates News Agency , a volcanic cloud rose to approximately four kilometers, prompting Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) to issue a red Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation (VONA), the highest alert level on a four-level scale.

Catania, which is Sicily's second-largest city, also experienced a severe storm that further disrupted transport, causing dozens of flights to be diverted to other airports. Catania Airport holds the distinction of being the busiest in Sicily and the fifth busiest in Italy in terms of passenger traffic.
