ABU DHABI: The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and the Arab Youth Centre have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance mutual collaboration and provide more opportunities for young people to become involved in the nuclear research and development (RandD) sector.

According to Emirates News Agency, this MoU offers UAE youth opportunities to develop skills, assist with research, and foster technology in nuclear energy, emphasizing sustainability’s role in new solutions. The signing ceremony was attended by Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Nuclear Research and Development Vice President at ENEC, and Sadiq Jarrar, Executive Director of the Arab Youth Centre. Also present were Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al Neyadi, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Vice Chairman of the Arab Youth Centre, and Mohamed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ENEC.

Mohamed Al Hammadi stated that ENEC has been committed to providing academic scholarships and training programs to develop Emirati talents in the advanced scientific and technical sector since the launch of the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program. This new commitment aims to ensure the sustainability of the Program by nurturing the future leaders of the UAE’s nuclear energy industry. He expressed that youth should play a leading role in the UAE’s transition to clean energy as part of the Nation’s Net Zero 2050 targets.

The MoU outlines collaboration b
etween ENEC and AYC to promote the effective use of facilities, resources, and joint projects for developing educational programs, training, and workshops. Further collaboration will focus on launching joint projects dedicated to supporting youth communities, fostering discussions, and providing specialized training through the Arab Youth Council for Climate Change. These efforts will be bolstered by youth forums to improve awareness of nuclear energy and the development of a research paper on civil nuclear energy.

The Arab Youth Initiative and the Technical Fellowship Programme for Arab Youth will jointly contribute to this project, aiming to attract and empower promising young talents in the nuclear sector.
