Abu dhabi: Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, emphasized the UAE's prioritization of climate action at the 16th Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), founded in Abu Dhabi in 2009. She pointed out that the event is hosting over 1,500 participants worldwide, underscoring the UAE's prominent role in the renewable energy sector.
According to Emirated News Agency, Al Dahak reiterated the UAE's dedication to supporting renewable energy initiatives, particularly in the context of the outcomes from COP28, which led to the historic UAE Consensus. A key achievement of this consensus was the agreement to triple global renewable energy production by 2030.
Al Dahak highlighted that such international gatherings are crucial for advancing global renewable energy goals. The UAE remains at the forefront of renewable energy development, with projects and operations spanning more than 75 countries. The nation continues to lead in clean energy development and deployment across various regions.
These meetings are part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, which assembles innovators and global companies to showcase renewable energy innovations and highlight the sector's critical role in supporting global climate action. Al Dahak emphasized the importance of diversifying energy sources and increasing reliance on renewable energy to meet national and global climate goals.
She also reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to international efforts aimed at achieving energy transition and climate action targets on both national and global scales.
