AUS Board of Trustees Strengthens Governance and Resilience with Key Approvals

Abu dhabi: The American University of Sharjah (AUS) Board of Trustees, led by H.H. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of AUS, held a pivotal meeting on 15th October in Cambridge, UK. The focus was on advancing measures to reinforce financial clarity, institutional readiness, and governance oversight, all of which support the university’s mission and long-term strategic goals.

According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting took place alongside the AUS Community Connect Cambridge delegation program. This initiative, part of a recently launched AUS outreach effort, brought representatives from Sharjah ecosystem institutions to Cambridge for knowledge exchange, site visits, and potential partnerships.

H.H. Sheikha Bodour expressed the significance of meeting in Cambridge, a place that greatly influenced her relationship with knowledge and learning. She emphasized the Board’s role in strengthening the university’s foundation to ensure it serves its students, faculty, and community with clarity and purpose for many generations.

The Board approved several key measures, including revisions to the AUS Delegation of Authority Manual to clarify financial approval processes. They also endorsed the Business Continuity Management Policy to reinforce oversight and operational continuity. Additionally, the Audit and Compliance Committee was renamed the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee to align with international best practices.

Dr. Tod Laursen, Chancellor of AUS, highlighted the importance of these actions in enhancing the university’s governance. By clarifying financial authorities, formalizing a comprehensive business continuity framework, and aligning committee oversight, the university is positioned to act decisively and responsibly. This ensures the protection of the student and faculty experience, supports innovation and research, and allows AUS to deliver on its strategic priorities in a dynamic environment.
