Geneva: Future Health, a global initiative by Abu Dhabi in collaboration with MIT Solve, has announced the winners of the inaugural Future Health Challenge: Building Anticipatory Health Systems through Population Sensing. This announcement follows a live global pitching session at a Future Health-hosted event on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva.
According to Emirates News Agency, this milestone is a significant step in Abu Dhabi's mission to promote a global shift towards predictive and inclusive health systems. The Challenge received 393 submissions from 68 countries, showcasing a strong global alignment with the emirate's vision for anticipatory and prevention-focused models of care that leverage data and technology for enhanced population health insights.
The winners were recognized for their innovative, technology-driven solutions that utilize data to detect health risks early, facilitating faster and more informed decision-making across health systems. The winning team, ThinkMD from Australia, received US$200,000 for equipping frontline health workers with mobile clinical decision-support tools that improve triage, treatment, and referral. This platform has already been adopted by over 9,000 frontline workers across 885 facilities and has demonstrated its early warning capabilities during a cholera outbreak in Zambia.
Other distinguished finalists included Vector Control Innovations from the United States and Huna from Brazil, each awarded US$50,000. Vector Control Innovations developed VectorCam, an AI-enabled mosquito surveillance tool that detects changing vector risks to enable preemptive health interventions. Huna applied AI to routine blood test data, identifying individuals at elevated cancer risk earlier and directing them towards appropriate care. Their pilots in Brazil have screened over 500,000 patients, detecting hundreds of cancer cases earlier than conventional methods.
The Future Health Challenge, in collaboration with MIT Solve, is part of Future Health's ongoing efforts to identify and support high-potential global talent. Dr. Asma Al Mannaei emphasized the importance of early risk detection in health systems, citing ThinkMD as a model for improved frontline decision-making and real-time health insights. The priority now is to test and scale these solutions in real-world settings.
Hala Hanna, Executive Director of MIT Solve, highlighted the urgency and opportunity presented by the Challenge's solutions, emphasizing the importance of connecting innovators with policymakers, funders, and implementers to accelerate impactful solutions.
Dr. Jackie Rabec, Co-Founder of ThinkMD, expressed excitement about the award and plans to expand their impact in priority markets across Africa while further developing their health intelligence products.
Future Health, a global initiative by Abu Dhabi, continues to foster collaboration among stakeholders in innovation, policy, and investment. The platform aims to enhance global partnerships and support the development of solutions that improve health outcomes worldwide. Finalists and semi-finalists will be invited to showcase their innovations at the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit in October 2026, providing a platform to connect with global leaders in health and investment.
