G20 Summit: Leaders Welcome Continued US Efforts to Bring Peace to Ukraine

Johannesburg: A number of world leaders participating in the 2025 G20 Johannesburg Summit welcomed the continued US efforts to bring peace to Ukraine.

According to Emirates News Agency, the initial draft of the 28-point plan includes important elements that will be essential for a just and lasting peace. The leaders emphasized that the draft serves as a basis requiring additional work and expressed their readiness to engage in ensuring that a future peace is sustainable.

“We are clear on the principle that borders must not be changed by force,” said the leaders in a joint statement on Ukraine issued by the European Council. They also expressed concern over the proposed limitations on Ukraine’s armed forces, as these limitations could leave Ukraine vulnerable to future attacks.

The leaders reiterated that the implementation of elements relating to the European Union and NATO would need the consent of EU and NATO members, respectively. They underlined the strength of their continued support to Ukraine and affirmed their commitment to coordinate closely with Ukraine and the US in the coming days.
