ICOM Dubai 2025 Concludes Its Historic Edition Under Vice Presidential Patronage

Dubai: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the 27th General Conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM Dubai 2025) concluded a landmark edition, marking its first hosting in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. The conference, themed ‘The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities,’ saw participation from over 4,500 global museum experts, cultural leaders, and decision-makers, highlighting Dubai’s cultural leadership.

According to Emirates News Agency, the final day featured a session led by H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on cultural diplomacy, emphasizing the UAE’s cultural unity and regional support. Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of State, discussed the role of creators and cultural diplomacy, citing partnerships with UNESCO and ICCROM that have contributed to regional training and development.

The conference also included sessions on the role of museums in diplomacy, featuring Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, who highlighted the importance of cultural events like Expo 2020 Dubai in fostering mutual understanding. Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh delivered a keynote on museums as dynamic institutions that contribute to social cohesion and development. Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak discussed the UAE’s commitment to cultural investment, citing Abu Dhabi’s cultural projects as examples.

The closing ceremony announced new leadership for ICOM and the next conference in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The event also introduced the ICOM Sustainability Award, recognizing innovative practices in the museum sector. Throughout the conference, over 100 sessions facilitated global collaboration, learning, and exchange among museum professionals.
