International Day of Police Cooperation: Bahrain Arrests, Extradites 26 Internationally Wanted Persons

Manama: Bahrain has demonstrated its commitment to international police cooperation by arresting and extraditing 26 internationally wanted individuals. General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Minister of Interior, highlighted these achievements in a speech marking the International Day of Police Cooperation, observed annually on September 7. Among those apprehended, nine individuals were arrested and extradited, while 17 fugitives were handed over to requesting countries.

According to Emirates News Agency, the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science in Bahrain made significant strides in combating narcotics by sharing over 97 pieces of critical information with 12 countries. They also conducted 18 joint operations with seven nations and successfully arrested four individuals at border crossings for narcotics possession, based on international intelligence.

General Shaikh Rashid emphasized the pressing need for robust cooperation and information exchange to tackle contemporary security challenges, which are increasingly cross-border in nature. He underscored the importance of utilizing advanced technologies and artificial intelligence to combat organized crime effectively. Furthermore, he stressed the necessity of accelerating information exchange and strengthening partnerships within the framework of INTERPOL, aligning these efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The minister concluded by reaffirming Bahrain’s dedication to enhancing international police cooperation. This includes efforts to combat international crime, exchange and analyze information, and forge stronger partnerships with other nations under INTERPOL, all aimed at reducing crime rates and bolstering global security.
