Abu dhabi: Kalba Sports and Cultural Club has launched the activities of Sharjah Week as part of the 2026 Sharjah Sports Summer Programme, 'A Holiday Reimagined'. This event was attended by prominent figures including Dr Omar bin Hanifa, Member of the Board of Directors of Sharjah Sports Council, along with Rashed Saeed bin Frish Al Kindi, Chairman of the Club's Board of Directors, and other board members, with wide participation from club members and parents.
According to Emirates News Agency, the first day's programme was packed with sports, cultural, and awareness activities, featuring competitions in basketball, volleyball, and 'Laser Run', along with chess and intelligence games. Interactive workshops were also conducted, focusing on assembling models of prominent landmarks in the Emirate of Sharjah, with the aim to enhance participants' knowledge of the emirate's cultural and tourism assets.
Kalba Municipality played a significant role by organising an awareness workshop titled 'Our Summer is Green', which informed attendees about methods of planting, transplanting, and plant care, contributing to raising environmental awareness among young people. This initiative aims to instill a culture of environmental preservation.
Coinciding with World Chess Day, the club hosted the 'Think... Plan... Win' workshop, which concentrated on developing strategic thinking, planning, and decision-making skills through chess. The programme aims to cultivate these skills among attendees.
Abdullah Mohammed bin Huwaiden, Chairman of the Organising Committee, stated that the 'A Holiday Reimagined' programme continues to offer activities that help in developing participants' talents and enhance values of creativity, teamwork, and belonging. This is in line with the vision of Sharjah Sports Council to provide comprehensive summer programmes that effectively utilize young people's free time.
He also highlighted that the programme is seeing growing participation due to the variety of its sports, cultural, and awareness activities, which provide a stimulating environment for skill development and positive use of the summer holiday. The first day's activities were well-received by participants and parents, who commended the quality of organisation and the diverse range of programmes offered.
