Korea to Accept Additional 22,000 Seasonal Migrant Workers in H2

Seoul: The Republic of Korea will allocate more than 22,000 additional seasonal migrant workers in the second half of this year to tackle chronic labor shortages in its agricultural and fisheries sectors, the justice ministry announced. This decision aims to address the ongoing workforce gaps in these crucial sectors by providing a significant boost to the local workforce.

According to Emirates News Agency, the ministry held a joint meeting with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. During this meeting, the allocation of 22,731 seasonal workers to 100 local governments across the country was approved. This strategy is expected to distribute the workforce effectively across the regions in need.

With this latest decision, the total number of seasonal workers assigned for the year rises to 95,700, marking a substantial 41 percent increase from last year's total of 67,778. This increase highlights the government's commitment to resolving labor shortages and supporting the sectors that heavily rely on seasonal work.

Additionally, the agriculture ministry plans to implement public seasonal worker programs using local funds. These programs are expected to commence in the second half of the year, pending government approval. This move is anticipated to further support local governments in managing their workforce needs efficiently.
