Mohammed bin Rashid Attends Women’s Race at Al Salam Cycling Championship

Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, attended part of the Women's Race during the 10th edition of the Al Salam Cycling Championship. The event was organised by the Private Office of H.H. the Ruler of Dubai.

According to Emirates News Agency, the Dubai Police-Esaad team's Lorena Wiebes emerged as the champion in the 93 km race, held at the Al Marmoom Reserve. The race featured some of the most accomplished female cyclists from across the country and beyond. With a world-record prize purse of AED460,000, the event provided a thrilling spectacle, culminating in a rousing final stage where Wiebes secured victory and a prize of AED100,000.

The race took place against the backdrop of the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve. Wiebes showcased a masterful display of skill and tactics. Her teammate, Femke Markus, finished in second place, earning AED70,000, while Nina Kessler from the Dubai Residence Cycling Club A team secured third, with a prize of AED50,000.

In the team standings, Dubai Police/Esaad claimed the top position, followed by Dubai Residence Cycling Club A and B teams in second and third, respectively. Mouza Al Mansoori won the Emirati Women's over-40 category, while Yulia Polevaya of Airwerks Team 1 topped the Open Women's over-40 category.

The race began at the Al Qudra Endurance Village in Saih Al Salam, continuing through the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve, past prominent landmarks, with a global audience following on television and digital media. Mohammed Al-Mousa, member of the Supreme Organising Committee, flagged off the race.

Omair bin Juma Al Falasi, Director General of the Private Office of His Highness the Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee, expressed gratitude to Sheikh Mohammed for his support. He praised the participants for their spirit of competition and highlighted the improvement in female performances, aiming to attract increased participation.

The championship, under the slogan 'Ten Years of Achievements and Success,' includes various races, with future events scheduled. The event is organised in cooperation with strategic partners like Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, and the Roads and Transport Authority, among others.
